Current world events underline the growing threat posed by modern drone systems (UxS). This makes it increasingly important to have adequate means of rapid and effective defence against smaller drones. Public events or targets in densely populated urban areas are particularly difficult to protect due to the high risk of collateral damage.
The aim here is to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible and minimise the background danger. The German Fuerth-based ammunition manufacturer RWS has developed a solution for precisely this purpose, which it will be presenting for the first time at this year’s Enforce Tac exhibition in Nuremberg: Urban Drone Defence (UDD).
In a world in which both civilian and military drones represent a constantly growing and very real threat, RWS offers a unique solution for neutralising DIY UAVs and commercial drones (UxS) in urban areas with its new ‘Urban Drone Defence’ (UDD) ammunition, while at the same time minimising background and personal hazards – even in densely populated areas. This special short-range ammunition with polymer projectile has been developed for 7.62 x 51 calibre machine guns with high cadence and offers precision and reliability for effective action against small UAVs/UxS (drones).
UDD provides fast and cost-efficient defence to protect infrastructure, military installations or public safety. With its lightweight but robust design, this advanced ammunition has been designed for optimum performance in a wide range of drone defence applications. Thanks to the targeted use of low-emission components, such as the patented SINTOX primer, it also offers the user a reduction in pollution to an absolute minimum.
The innovative product solution offers two variants in 7.62 x 51 calibre for different application scenarios:
• UDD LIGHT (with blue-coloured polymer bullet, 1.0g / 15 gr), particularly suitable for shorter distances of up to 100m in densely populated inner-city areas,
• UDD HEAVY (with grey-coloured polymer bullet, ≤ 3.0g / 46 gr), particularly suitable for medium distances of up to 300m for defending suburban or rural areas, for example
