My friend will take me this year on a wild boar hunting trip, and I am trying to complete my equipment. One of the things that I would like to take is a 10X40 binocular, but I don’t want to spend $4,159 for Swarovski 10×42 EL Laser Rangefinder Binoculars. So I had to find some more affordable option, but I did not want to compromise on picture quality. My goal was to find high-quality but affordable binoculars that I can use for several years and then see if I need something better, even if I can afford it at that moment. I wanted a pair of binoculars that I can kind of abuse, scratch, damage, or even lose on a hunting trip without breaking the bank.

After researching online for two weeks, I decided to buy ZOOMR 10×42 from GOVIEW (that is a German company, but the binoculars are made in China), and I paid $279 for them. That is under $300, and that was my budget for a binoculars. I was attracted by Nikon Prostaff P3 10×42 for $150, but then I read some reviews claiming that they have some of the worst clarity, and I don’t want to compromise quality to save $100. The ZOOMR 10×42 is available in the cool colors Oak Green and Phantom Black, but I chose Oak Green because it looks better to me.

The ZOOMR 10×42 has a glass fiber-reinforced plastic housing has a 10x magnification, which, in combination with the large lens diameter, allows you to see even the smallest details in brilliant colors at the greatest distance. They are Roof prisms design, and that means that they have a straight-through design that allows for a more compact and streamlined binocular or monocular. They are typically made from a type of glass called BAK4, which has a higher refractive index than BK7 glass, making it more expensive but also higher quality.

The Roof prism binoculars are generally lighter, narrower, easier to hold, and better able to withstand abuse and water intrusion. Equipped with BAK4 roof prisms, the ZOOMR 10×42 ensures high-quality image clarity and contrast, minimizing chromatic aberration and edge distortion. Most manufacturers of quality hunting binoculars stick with roof-prism designs, and you should too.

The ZOOMR 10×42 is a nitrogen-filled binoculars. Binoculars and monoculars are often filled with nitrogen to prevent moisture from entering the internal components of the device and causing fogging or condensation on the lenses. Nitrogen is used because it is an inert gas, which means it does not react with other substances and is not likely to cause corrosion or other damage to the internal components of the device.

Magnification & Field of View: With a 10x magnification and a 42mm objective lens, the ZOOMR 10×42 delivers detailed views suitable for birdwatching, hiking, and sports events. The field of view spans 106 meters at 1000 meters, translating to an angular field of 6.1°, which is adequate for tracking moving subjects.

Optical Coatings: The binoculars feature fully multi-coated lenses, enhancing light transmission and reducing glare. This results in brighter, sharper images with improved color accuracy, even in challenging lighting conditions.

Construction Materials: The binoculars boast a glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) housing, offering a balance between durability and lightweight design. This construction contributes to their overall weight of 568 grams, making them comfortable for extended use.

Ergonomics: A short hinge design enhances grip and handling, facilitating one-handed use. The binoculars are also nitrogen-filled, rendering them waterproof and fog-resistant, with an IPX5/6 rating, ensuring reliability in various weather conditions.

User Comfort: With a 16.1mm eye relief and twist-up eyecups, the ZOOMR 10×42 accommodates both eyeglass wearers and those without, providing a comfortable viewing experience.

The CLOSR smartphone adapter is provided in the package and with a little bit of practice it works just fine for cellphone video recording

Accessories:

Carrying strap: In the package, you are provided with a PORTR strap with an easy click closure. This intelligent click connection works well, it is safe, but easy to detach or attach when needed.

Carrying case: The high-quality carrying case is made of robust fabric. It is light, waterproof, and firm enough to protect the binoculars, but the closing mechanism is more on the light side and probably not for heavy hunting in dense woods. I am afraid that it could be opened by some branches of thick brush when walking through it.

Cleaning cloth: It is packed in a small pouch with a clever carabiner that lets you effortlessly keep your binoculars clean and clear.

Protective caps (Ocular & Objective): Both are made from great elastic silicone plastic, and they have strap attachments if you would like to secure them with a strap.

The CLOSR smartphone adapter: Works well – the best is to watch our video review to see for yourself how that works.

Use experience

Everything about using ZOOMR 10×42 is easy and effective, and it works well. The center focus wheel works great, and it will make your picture super clear in a second. Twist eyecups move well, and they lock. Locking diopter is effective too. The carrying bag is big enough to place everything inside.

Final Verdict

The GoView ZOOMR 10×42 binoculars offer a compelling blend of modern design, robust construction, and thoughtful features, making them a strong contender in the mid-range optics market. They have a crystal clear picture! We were surprised by the quality of the picture. All mechanical parts work well. Build quality is excellent in every detail. Magnification is great. Dimensions are great, design even better. Weight is right there. The glass fiber-reinforced plastic housing is excellent, and the optics are excellent too. I do not doubt that you can find many binoculars with some specs better than ZOOMR 10×42 has, but it is hard to find one that is better under $300. The inclusion of premium accessories, robust build quality, and optical performance positions them as a strong value proposition for outdoor enthusiasts seeking quality without a premium price tag.
