Safari Club International (SCI) is delighted to congratulate the Republic of Zambia on the signing of the CITES Statutory Instrument into law on 28 November 2025 by Honorable Rodney Sikumba, Minister of Tourism. This landmark achievement reflects Zambia’s unwavering commitment to global conservation leadership, responsible wildlife management, and science-based policy.
Zambia stands as one of Africa’s great wilderness nations, being home to extraordinary biodiversity, iconic species and vast, unspoiled landscapes. The country’s conservation approach, rooted in the principles of sustainable use, community benefit, and rigorous scientific regulation, ensures that wildlife remains a renewable and protected national asset. The Government of Zambia once again demonstrates that it takes both national and international regulatory obligations with the utmost seriousness.
Minister Sikumba underscored the significance of the new law by saying:
“Today’s signing demonstrates the Zambian Government’s unwavering commitment to conservation, sustainable use, and community benefit. By enacting these measures, we are safeguarding the future of our wildlife while creating lasting economic opportunities for the people who share their land with these iconic species.”
Honorable Sikumba, an SCI Life Member and the Safari Club International 2026 International Legislator of the Year, continues to champion policies that strengthen wildlife protection and empower rural communities.
