Design & Build Quality (★★★★★)
Right out of the box, the PROTAC HL 6 immediately feels solid and well-constructed. This flashlight is built to withstand tough environments, made of durable 6000 series machined aircraft aluminum with an anodized finish that’s both lightweight and resilient. It’s rated to meet IPX7 standards for waterproofing, meaning it can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without issue. This is especially important if you use flashlights in rain, snow, and other challenging conditions while hiking, fishing, or hunting.
The design is compact for the power it offers, and while it’s on the larger side compared to more pocket-sized models, it still feels comfortable to hold and operate, even with gloved hands. The textured grip ensures you won’t lose your hold, which is critical when you’re working in low-visibility or slippery conditions. The textured rubber sleeve and included lanyard ensures you’ll never lose your grip.
Size
• Length: 10.5 in (26.6 cm)
• Head Diameter: 2.35 in (6.0 cm)
• Body Diameter: 1.25 in (3.2 cm)
• Weight: 1.3 lbs. (590 g)
Another highlight is the multi-function, easy access, head-mounted, push-button switch, which allows for easy, single-handed operation of the light. This switch is a tactical feature I appreciate—it’s responsive, and the flashlight turns on or off with minimal effort. One-handed operation of momentary, variable intensity, or strobe mode. TEN-TAP programmable switch allows for user selection of one of three different programs: high/strobe/low (factory default), high only, or low/medium/high.
LIGHT SOURCE: LED technology, impervious to shock with a 50,000-hour lifetime. Total internal reflection optic. LENS: Glass lens with anti-reflective coating. Gasket-sealed
Performance & Brightness (★★★★★)
The performance of the PROTAC HL 6 is nothing short of impressive.
Light modes:
High: 5,300 lumens; 80,000 candela, 566m beam; runs 2 hours
Medium: 1,500 lumens; 23,000 candela; 303m beam; runs 3.75 hours
Low: 450 lumens; 6,700 candela; 164m beam; runs 12.5 hours
With a maximum output of 5,300 lumens, this light can illuminate large areas and reach up to 566 meters, which is enough for tactical use, search, and rescue, but simply too much for any close quarters needs, backyard night adventure, gare or basement use or urban scenarios. For those scenarios, you will blind yourself with high mode so just switch to mid mode or even low mode.
The high beam mode provides an intense, bright beam that cuts through the darkness with ease, while the low beam mode is great for longer runtimes or situations where you don’t need to over-illuminate the area. The strobe mode is a fantastic feature for signaling or disorienting an opponent in tactical scenarios.

Battery Life (★★★★☆)
The PROTAC HL 6 is powered by two Streamlight SL-B48 protected Li-Ion USB rechargeable battery packs. The runtime varies depending on the mode you use. On high, you can expect around 2 hours of usage, which is standard for a flashlight of this output. In the low mode, however, the runtime extends to about 12 hours, which is great for longer trips or use as an everyday carry flashlight.
The Streamlight SL-B48-protected Li-Ion USB rechargeable battery packs with onboard safety control have a capacity of 5000mAh each and they are rechargeable up to 500 times. Each battery pack recharges in 5 hours. The ProTac HL 6 rechargeable system comes with a 110V wall charger, charge cord, and two SL-B48 rechargeable battery packs that feature an integrated USB-C charge port. LED Solid State Power Regulation provides maximum light output throughout battery life.
One of the key things I appreciate is the intelligent switch on the flashlight, which allows you to easily toggle between modes. This makes it easy to conserve battery life when you don’t need maximum brightness. If you’re someone who requires longer runtimes or more frequent use, I highly recommend getting the rechargeable battery pack as it’s more economical in the long run and eco-friendly.
Tactical & Usability Features (★★★★★)
The flashlight features Streamlight’s TEN-TAP® Programming, which gives you the option to choose between three operating modes:
1. High/Strobe/Low
2. High Only
3. Low/High
This flexibility is fantastic for adapting the flashlight to different needs. The strobe function is especially useful for disorienting a target or signaling in emergencies.
Although it’s not a flashlight you’ll be attaching to your head or carrying in your pocket as an EDC light (due to its size), it works extremely well when mounted on tactical gear or kept in a bag for ready access. The impact-resistant construction (1-meter impact resistance tested) and shockproof design make it perfect for use in harsh environments, whether that’s on the job, in the field, or during outdoor activities like camping, fishing, or hiking.
Conclusion (★★★★★)
The Streamlight PROTAC HL 6 is an exceptional flashlight that delivers both power and versatility in a tough, tactical package. Whether you’re a law enforcement professional, a search and rescue worker, or just an outdoor enthusiast, this light is more than capable of meeting your needs. Its incredible brightness, durability, and smart functionality make it a top choice in its category. While it’s not excessively bulky, it’s larger than many typical everyday carry flashlights. If you need a more compact, pocket-friendly light, this may not be the best option. But if you simply need power and more power this is the flashlight for you.
For those who need high lumens, reliability, and flexibility in a flashlight, I can confidently recommend the Streamlight PROTAC HL 6. It’s one of the best tactical flashlights I’ve used and is now an essential part of my gear setup. Get one here: https://www.streamlight.com/products/detail/protac-hl-6
