Safari Club International (SCI) is thrilled to announce the launch of the SCI Center for Conservation Law and Education, an initiative that cements SCI’s position as the global leader in championing sustainable-use wildlife conservation and hunting rights and shaping education of the public and policymakers.
No other hunting organization brings this level of firepower: a team of global in-house attorneys, dedicated state liaisons, and the iconic “Hunters’ Embassy,” SCI’s headquarters in Washington D.C. Together, this sets the standard for safeguarding hunting access, reinforcing conservation efforts, and ensuring a thriving future for wildlife.
“Hunting heritage and sustainable-use conservation are under constant siege,” said W. Laird Hamberlin, CEO of SCI. “Hunters are the ultimate conservationists, and this Center is our frontline defense for the future of hunting. Whether in courtrooms, state wildlife commissions, or international fora, SCI delivers victories that matter–for hunters and wildlife.”
A Legal Arsenal Built to Win
For four decades, SCI’s legal team has been fighting for sustainable-use conservation and hunting rights. The team has taken on more than 60 major cases in the past decade alone— from defending the delisting of gray wolves and Louisiana black bears to fighting back against public land closures, regulatory overreach, and anti-hunting campaigns. With an impressive record that includes 12 cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, the legal team’s impact covers everything from elephants to elk.
On the Ground, In the Fight, Around the Country
SCI’s state team puts boots-on-the-ground where it counts, to educate state wildlife commissions and policymakers about the critical role of hunting as a wildlife conservation and management tool. In just the first half of 2025, the team has filed 43 comment letters to shape the dialogue on key issues, made 35 field visits nationwide to engage directly with stakeholders, issued 14 alerts to activate SCI members and supporters, and guested on 2 podcasts to inspire and energize the hunting community.
Being part of the Center will allow SCI’s state team to intensify their educational activities and achieve even more for wildlife conservation and hunting.
The Hunters’ Embassy: Where Policy Becomes Progress
From monthly “Lunch and Learns” for Congressional staff to immersive education on how laws like the Pittman-Robertson Act and Endangered Species Act really work, SCI’s Washington, D.C. headquarters delivers the education that turns policy into progress. Now, with these programs expanding under the Center’s umbrella, the impact is set to grow even further.
The SCI Center for Conservation Law and Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, will empower SCI’s global community of 100,000+ members and advocates through education, engagement, and the opportunity to provide tax-deductible support. The Center will chart a bold new path for SCI’s legal, state, and educational initiatives. More information is available on the Center’s website at http://ccle.safariclub.org.
